REGINA—The construction of on-site living quarters for scab labour by the Co-op Refinery is only going to derail contract talks, warns Unifor.

“Making plans to bus scabs in to an active refinery is going to totally disrupt good-faith bargaining,” said Jerry Dias, Unifor National President. “It’s reckless and unnecessary.”

Unifor Local 594 and Co-op Refinery are currently in conciliation. More talks are scheduled for November and Unifor says the construction of scab living quarters is a signal that Co-op is not invested in negotiations.

“Unifor does not take kindly to scabs,” said Dias. “Co-op is making a huge mistake and should think twice about the impact this will have on morale in the workplace and the outcome of bargaining.”
