Unifor Local 112 members at Jobsite Industrial made significant gains in a strong first contract.
The union represents workers at the industrial tool and equipment provider in Burlington, including rental, parts and service representatives as well as drivers, technicians, shipping and receiving, and warehouse workers.
Members ratified the contract by 85% on Saturday, May 8.
“I would like to thank everyone on our bargaining team for their leadership throughout these negotiations and congratulate our members for successfully ratifying their first contract,” said Scott McIlmoyle, Unifor Local 112 President. “Making strong gains in these uncertain times is an incredible accomplishment and shows how important and effective collective bargaining is at every workplace.”
Local 112 members achieved wage increases that range from 3.3% to 12% over the term of the agreement as well as wage parity within each job classification. Prior to joining the union, the employer scheduled nine-hour shifts on a forty-four hour work week. The new contract moves all members to a forty-hour work week with eight-hour shifts.
“This contract solidly delivers on the kinds of improvements our members wanted to see in their workplace from better and fairer wages to a healthier workplace overall,” said Sam Snyders, Unifor National Representative. “Our members successfully pushed for and won a forty-hour work week that allows for more time with family members, running errands, and dealing with the effects of the pandemic.”
The first contract establishes the union’s workplace chairperson and steward positions as well as a women’s advocate. It also secures two years of extended recall rights for all members, institutes a banked time program, and strengthens workplace health and safety language.
The term of the three-year collective agreement ends on May 7, 2024.
