NEW WESTMINSTER, BC, Feb. 26, 2014 /CNW/ - Unifor, BC's largest union representing container truckers, will be making an announcement today about the Vancouver truckers' protests.
"Truckers in BC have a good reason to be angry," said Paul Johal, President of Unifor-Vancouver Container Truckers' Association (VCTA). "Truckers are a critical part of the economy of the Lower Mainland, but we're not being treated with respect by the ports, many employers, and both levels of government."

Unifor and other associations have been in dialogue with the Port Authority for months to raise concerns that long line-ups and wait times at the Port of Vancouver were costing truck drivers money. The truckers are also demanding a standardized and enforced rate of pay that covers all drivers at the ports and puts an end to under-cutting for once and for all.
Unifor was founded Labour Day weekend 2013 when the Canadian Auto Workers and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers unions merged. With more than 300,000 members, Unifor is Canada's largest union in the private sector.
