TORONTO, Dec. 10, 2013 /CNW/ - Unifor will be responding shortly to the report by the Ontario Auditor General this afternoon into the Ontario government's plans to sell off the Ontario Northland Transportation Commission.

The Auditor General found that the cost of the sell-off could be as high as $820 million, a far cry from the government's description of the plan in 2012 as a money-saving measure that would save taxpayers $265.9 million over three years.

Unifor Rail Director Brian Stevens is will be available this afternoon and evening for comment.

Unifor is Canada's largest union in the private sector, representing more than 300,000 workers, including approximately 9,000 workers in the railway sector. Unifor was founded Labour Day weekend with the Canadian Auto Workers and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers union merged.
