Letter to Tim Hudak, Leader, Progressive Conservative Party

Unifor National President Jerry Dias extends an invite to Tim Hudak Leader, Progressive Conservative Party to debate Hudaks proposed labour law changes for Ontario.

Dear Mr. Hudak,

I would like to formally invite you to a debate about your proposed labour law changes for Ontario.

I have been through your plan, and quite simply the numbers just don’t add up. U.S. states with right to work legislation have seen a race to the bottom, with lower wages, less safe workplaces and less money spent on schools and health – and with no better a record on job creations.

No one wants that for Ontario.

I and others who oppose your plan have criticized it publicly and will continue to do so. You and your supporters have and will no doubt continue to promote your ideas. And we could both just continue putting out press releases and giving speeches, but it would be far better if we got together in one room and debated the issue face-to-face.

I hope you agree. I am prepared to meet you anywhere, any time to debate this important issue.

As the national president of Unifor, Canada’s largest union in the private sector with members working in every part of the economy, I would welcome this opportunity, and look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Jerry Dias Unifor National President
