Unifor is excited to announce that 47 workers from Goodwill Industries, Ontario Great Lakes, have voted to join Unifor, following a successful organizing campaign.
"With courage and conviction, workers at Goodwill Industries have taken a significant step towards workplace empowerment by choosing to join Unifor," said Unifor National President Lana Payne. "We extend a heartfelt welcome to these workers as they join the Unifor family, and we stand ready to support their pursuit of fair treatment and respect."
Goodwill Industries workers decided to unionize after concerns about fair wages and the need for comprehensive benefits and improved health and safety standards came to the surface.
These new Unifor members are dedicated to tasks ranging from greeting donors to sorting donations and cashing out customers at the second-hand retail shop and donation centre. By unionizing, they can finally address the systemic issues of inequality and lack of representation within their workplace.
"We are proud to stand with the workers of Goodwill Industries in their fight for dignity and fairness," said Justin Gniposky, Unifor Director of Organizing. " Their decision to join Unifor sends a powerful message, and we invite non-union workers at Goodwill in London to contact Unifor about organizing their own workplace."
The certification vote was held over 24 hours from Feb. 15 to 16.
As Unifor continues to champion the interests of workers across various sectors, the addition of the Goodwill Industries employees reflects the union's unwavering commitment to advancing the rights and well-being of all workers across Canada.
